This method started over 30 years ago in Japan and is responsible for producing some of the world’s best string musicians. As students continue through the program, Strictly Strings, a comprehensive string method book, is used along with music from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) prescribed music list.
Students who make the commitment to be in this program have the opportunity to participate in state, district and city music festivals, concerts and workshops, including...
- DISD Solo and Ensemble Contest
- DISD Orchestra Evaluation
- UIL Concert/Sight‑Reading
- Performances at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Hall and Sandy Lake Amusement Park
- Outstanding performers are selected to the All‑City orchestra.
Classes are held during the regular school day. Students are expected to practice 15-30 minutes each day at home emphasizing the new material presented in class.
Parents should call the school office at the beginning of the school year to enroll their student in the Orchestra Program.
Piano: Timothy Brown, Director
The Middle School classes perform a “Solo Winter Piano Recital” in January. The recital typically includes works by Mozart, Chopin, And S. Rachmaninoff as well as a number of ensemble works for more than one performer.
