President's welcome

Dear Parents,

Hooray for a new school year at Harry Stone! I hope you are as excited as I am about 2009/10! We need your help to get things rolling and keep it going for our students at Harry Stone.

One of the most important ways to enhance your child's education is to participate in the learning process and extracurricular activities. Whether your commitment level allows attending PTA meetings, afterschool hall monitoring, reading to students, cleaning classroom tools, working in our garden, and/or chaperoning field trips, each is an important fuction and opportunity for you to give back to your child's education.

We need parents and guardians to give time and talent in order to improve all students' experiences at Harry Stone. I hope we can count on each of you to donate at least 2 hours each 6 week period to Harry Stone.

We aim to improve our communication with you this year with a monthly newsletter, as well as with regular website updates and emails, so please sign up for our email group.

Keep in touch with the latest at Harry Stone! The best way for parents to stay informed at HSPTA is to join the email list. The PTA-sponsored e-mail service sends out informal notices about happenings at school. These include school and PTA news, reminders of upcoming events and other information that parents might find of interest. You can receive e-mails from and send e-mails to PTA officers and fellow parents at Harry Stone.

# 4 Attend PTA Meetings
See and hear the talents of students; learn about school initiatives; learn about Montessori education and how to help your child; see how your PTA dollars are being spent to support your child, school environment and staff.

#3 Say Thanks!
Every day, in ways large and small, and usually unseen, the Harry Stone staff and teachers, PTA parents and grandparent volunteers work to make Harry Stone a fabulous experience for our children. Whenever you have the opportunity, take a moment to thank those individuals. Let them know their efforts are appreciated. A little recognition goes a long way. Thanks!

To make your school the best it can be -- we need you! We need your help, your talents and your experience. Whether it is an hour a week or an hour a day, we need you. To learn about the myriad volunteer opportunities at Harry Stone please complete the enclosed Volunteer Registration sheet.

Get Involved by joining the PTA.
Make a difference in the health, education, and well-being of our children. The PTA works to bring teachers, parents, and the community together to share thoughts and ideas for programs and projects that benefit our children. If you haven't already returned the membership envelope with $5, please do so. If you need an envelope, contact your child's teacher, pick one up at the PTA Bulletin Board by the Auditorium, or stop by the school office. Let's meet that challenge of 100% membership and make Harry Stone proud!
